Phenomenal Woman, by Maya Angelou (Analysis)

If we read something about Maya Angelou, our minds maybe begin to build a great house full of ideas by her multifaceted personality. As a civil rights activist, Dr. Angelou work very close with Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X. Her charisma and vision of the world makes her write poems like “Phenomenal Woman”, to remark the position of the woman, the place that she has to have on the society. The poem has many elements highlighting the value of a woman: a phenomenal woman.

Dr. Angelou’s poem is full of pent-up emotions. As a background voice, we have the author demonstrating to the lector that there is a woman that feels and have strong feelings. On the other side, the author is making a claim to acceptation and is expressed in a poem with a speech or advice background. By emphasizing with analogies, Maya Angelou express what every woman wants to feel, no matter how many imperfections can have, because everybody is beautiful inside and outside, no matter what anyone could say. The poem can be seeing as a guide to valorize ourselves.

The woman throughout history has live a lot of devaluations, by the man, to be exact. With her empower and solidarity remarking that we all are the same and worth the same, Angelou off the cravings to love ourselves. The power that Dr. Angelou continuously states on her poem is a mere ability to be powerful being confident. The main point is that the woman has to see herself as phenomenal, acting with confident. Every woman has to be successful no matter what could happen, and Maya Angelou states it in different ways.
