The Academy Nominee Movie Precious, rather than being a simple film, is a dramatic and crude history. Precious is a movie that presents a piece of reality at the 80’s. The movie presents many violent and cruel scenes, something very hard to many people. Maybe the film director used this form to express all the events of the movie to educate the viewer to ‘delete’ these actions that can be seen today. Precious is a movie to open the eyes of those who have closed today.

Claireece P. "Precious" Jones is the main character of the film. She’s an abused girl in a mental and physical way, and lives with her mother. Precious is constantly hit it with words and objects by her progenitor, who does not valorize her. All these factors make her be a girl with low self-esteem. She was violated twice by her own father becoming pregnant acquiring a disease on the second encounter. Precious have never has a stable live because all these events that make her see the live like something cruel to her, adding that she is obese.

On the movie, we have another main character that can be seen like the antagonist. Mary, her mother, is a woman that does not demonstrate any care of love to her daughter Precious, just insults, constant discrimination and lack of respect. Mary is an unemployed and abusive mother that wants kill her own daughter after known that the second baby that Precious was a product of a violation by her dad, or like she says: “my man”. She never takes cares of anybody except her own or her husband, Precious’ dad.

Adding more bad things to Precious’ life is her father: Carl. He can be described as a mental sick, negligent and abusive person. He makes incest with his daughter, a person who does not care. Carl is the hangman behind Precious traumas because he destroys the life of his own daughter and her mental health. Besides, he was AIDS, a disease that took his life. Because of that, Precious acquires HIV and when she discovered, it was awful because was infected by her own father.

Making a dramatic change, we have the teacher of Precious, the angel of this film. Ms. Blu Rain represents the hope and a change on life of Precious bad experiences. Ms. Blu Rain helps Precious construct a new morality, a new value of her own and who a person can be resilient. Precious was motivated be her and her friends on the school, that represents an escape valve for her. It can be mention that Ms. Blu Rain is the road or the light at the end of Precious’ road.

Watch the movie for me was very interesting and shocking because I have never see a violent and abuse patter so close and real. I still can believe that a mother may abuse of her own daughter and grandson just for a man. On my mind, all the moments where Precious and her mother Mary fights are very present. I feel very proud by Precious because she is a strong person that living a nightmare could wake up with the head held hide.

Phenomenal Woman, by Maya Angelou (Analysis)

If we read something about Maya Angelou, our minds maybe begin to build a great house full of ideas by her multifaceted personality. As a civil rights activist, Dr. Angelou work very close with Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X. Her charisma and vision of the world makes her write poems like “Phenomenal Woman”, to remark the position of the woman, the place that she has to have on the society. The poem has many elements highlighting the value of a woman: a phenomenal woman.

Dr. Angelou’s poem is full of pent-up emotions. As a background voice, we have the author demonstrating to the lector that there is a woman that feels and have strong feelings. On the other side, the author is making a claim to acceptation and is expressed in a poem with a speech or advice background. By emphasizing with analogies, Maya Angelou express what every woman wants to feel, no matter how many imperfections can have, because everybody is beautiful inside and outside, no matter what anyone could say. The poem can be seeing as a guide to valorize ourselves.

The woman throughout history has live a lot of devaluations, by the man, to be exact. With her empower and solidarity remarking that we all are the same and worth the same, Angelou off the cravings to love ourselves. The power that Dr. Angelou continuously states on her poem is a mere ability to be powerful being confident. The main point is that the woman has to see herself as phenomenal, acting with confident. Every woman has to be successful no matter what could happen, and Maya Angelou states it in different ways.

To Sue's Dad...

Dear Mr. Sue’s Father

I’m here, thinking… Although I never imagined that I will write to you something because I don’t even know you, but all this events makes me do it. I really don’t know if it’s correct to call you father after what you do to your son and his life with the name Sue, excluding that event with the guns where he found you. No matter what happen before, I can get out from my mind the true meaning of that name, being thousands of names. Writing this makes me remember that punch on your face, and I want give to you a few too until my fingers hurts.

YYou know what? After analyzed all happened, I could say that the name Sue makes make your son feel almost proud. I was watching TV, a series called Glee, and there exist a Sue, but in a women role. Coach Sue Sylvester is amazing. She’s brave, without fear, and inspires this fear feeling to everyone. I think that maybe you name your son like that inspired in someone like coach Sylvester. I would appreciate if you answer me how you can do this.

I was searching some information about the name Sue, and all are based on a female. Damn! Well, what is not bad for the body maybe makes someone stronger. Let me know you as a dad. I want knew how you can be so different and similar at the same time. It’s not too difficult express about a feeling or a moment, I think.
